What is cord blood?

Cord blood, or umbilical cord blood, is the blood remaining in your child’s umbilical cord and the child’s side of the placenta following birth. It is a rich, non-controversial source of stem cells that are potentially life-saving for members of your family.

These cells are not only genetically unique for your family but also unique with respect to point in time – bringing particularly favorable “plasticity characteristics” (or the ability to transform into other types of tissue).  In addition, these young cells are relatively immunologically naive – that is, more transplantable than similarly matched, more mature cells.

Consequently, these newborn stem cells have the unique ability to repair or replace damaged cells and tissue for members of your family.

Why do families choose to collect and store their baby’s cord blood with Stembanc?

Today, families are banking their baby’s cord blood with Stembanc for several reasons. Cryopreserving cord blood with Stembanc offers peace of mind. Should there be a lifesaving need, these precious cells that are genetically unique to your family are readily available for you

Stembanc enrolled families also understand that medical advancements are progressing at a rapid pace.  Developments using these cells today were not even imagined just a few years ago. And what is possible today, likely is only a fraction of what will be possible in the next five, ten, or twenty years.

What is Cord Tissue?

Cord Tissue is the “Wharton’s Jelly” / Umbilical Cord Matrix that remains after cord blood collection. This cord tissue is rich in primitive multipotent mesenchymal stem cells.

These mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are exceptionally promising for treating a wide range of diseases and conditions due to their unusual ability to differentiate into different tissue types, expandability, and suitability for use in “3D Printing” of organs and tissues. These characteristics bring the possibility of one day using these genetically unique cells for replacement or repair of diseased organs or tissues in your family.

MSCs have also shown the ability to migrate to inflamed sites of tumor growth or injury.

Treatments developed using MSCs, while currently considered experimental, could one day become the standard of care.

More than 40,000 scientific publications reference MSCs, and more than 800 clinical trials using them are underway worldwide.

Some of the diseases and conditions being addressed utilizing MSCs in United States clinical trials are shown here.

Is there any risk to my child?

There is no pain or risk involved in the collection of the newborn stem cells for Stembanc enrolled families.  Stembanc’s newborn stem cell collection procedure only takes a few minutes for your doctor to complete. The stem cells are collected after the umbilical cord is clamped and cut, and no longer attached to your child.

When are the Newborn Stem Cells collected?

There is just one brief moment in time when you can collect and preserve your child’s precious Newborn Stem Cells with Stembanc. That’s at the moment of birth.  Call 1-87-STEMBANC for more information today.
